About

Himath Mandul, Who?

I was a curious learner who wanted to know how stuff works. How does plugging a computer into a router just give you internet and let you talk to the rest of the world? What actually happens when I click a button on a screen? That sort of thing.

So I started fiddling. Found Linux, and then found this world called cyber security. Soon after, I realised there’s a whole ecosystem inside it. Securing stuff. Breaking stuff. Writing policy on how people should do stuff. It has been several years and it is still as interesting as the first day I started poking at it.

Choosing to work in cyber security is one of the better decisions I’ve made. It’s learning how something works, then seeing a place where it doesn’t, and finding out people will pay you to notice.

I’m early in this, so I’m still figuring things out. These days that mostly means working through my CEH, doing labs along the way.

This is where I write it down. Usually after it goes wrong, or after it finally made sense.

I don’t want to limit this to cyber security though. I’ll write about philosophy too, which is what I do with my free time. Mostly reading it.
